This 9–10 May, Barangaroo Sydney comes alive with culture, creativity and waterfront celebration as Barangaroo Live invites visitors to discover one of the city’s most vibrant precincts

Be among the first to experience the public opening of The Cutaway, a newly reimagined underground space dedicated to culture, learning and community.

Enjoy live music and performances by Indigenous and non‑Indigenous artists, explore immersive art installations, and take part in Aboriginal cultural workshops. Wander along the harbour in Barangaroo South and browse more than 100 stalls at the Barangaroo Artisan Markets.

Celebrate weekend with meaningful moments shared together at Damulay Nguarang Mother's Day event.

With free, family‑friendly experiences for all ages, Barangaroo Live is a must‑visit event in Sydney this weekend.

Across Saturday afternoon, The Cutaway will come alive with performances by a diverse lineup of Sydney-based artists and interwoven with dance performances, showcasing the depth, energy and creativity of the city’s contemporary arts scene.

Kee'ahn (1:30pm)

Kee’ahn, a proud Yalanji, Jirrbal and Badu Islander artist, creates soulful music honouring Ancestors. From North Queensland to Melbourne, they’ve earned major awards, played leading festivals, supported acclaimed acts, released ‘Better Things’, and unveil a debut EP in 2025, nationally

 

 

DOBBY (2:40pm)

ARIA Award-winning DOBBY is a Filipino and Murrawarri artist whose explosive live shows fuse rapping, drumming and storytelling. ARIA-winning album WARRANGU earned global acclaim, radio dominance and major awards, touring worldwide, scoring events, and fronting protest anthems reshaping Australian music.

 

 

Alice Ivy (3:50pm)

Alice Ivy is an ARIA‑nominated electronic artist and producer from Naarm/Melbourne with 80+ million streams. Her acclaimed albums earned major award nods, global campaigns and collaborations, alongside tours with Billie Eilish and festival appearances worldwide.

 

 

DJ Charlie Villas (3-5pm)

Charlie Villas is a highly sought‑after DJ and dancefloor tastemaker, blending disco, house and global soulful sounds. Born in the Philippines and based on Darug and Gundungurra Country, she’s ignited iconic festivals and events including Splendour in the Grass, Sydney Mardi Gras, Fashion Week, Vivid Sydney and WorldPride.

 

 

 

Live Artwork

Discover a live artwork demonstration by Shal. Guests will be welcomed to watch live art being painted on textile, drill fabric flat on the ground.

Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal) is a Yugambeh-born Bundjalung painter whose bold, lyrical work bridges Country, counterculture and global design. Rising rapidly since 2021, he’s earned major institutional commissions, acclaimed exhibitions, and high‑profile collaborations, redefining contemporary Australian art.

Artwork displays

A contemporary approach comes to life through a collaboration with artist Sophie Penkethman Young, with sculptural pieces placed throughout the space to create moments of discovery as you wander.

Sophie Penkethman‑Young is an artist and digital producer living on unceded Gadigal Land. Her practice spans exhibition, performance and 3D work, with presentations at Artspace, Gertrude Contemporary, Verge Gallery, Liveworks, Seventh Gallery, and Mais Wright, including major projects in 2022 and 2025.

Cultural workshops

Celebrate the opening of The Cutaway with a fun, family‑friendly weekend of drop‑in creative activities. Kids of all ages can explore art, culture and discovery through hands‑on workshops, weaving sessions, and engaging artefact displays, while families wander, play and learn together at their own pace.
