GBCA recognises International Towers' commitment to Green Star

We celebrated the significant achievements of outgoing Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) CEO Romilly Madew AO at a farewell morning tea event on Tuesday, 9 April. Held in the spectacular community area on level 31, Tower Two, guests included Ms Madew and incoming CEO Davina Rooney, International Towers Fund Manager Liam Timms and International Towers General Manager Tony Byrne.

In her farewell speech, Ms Madew took the opportunity to recognise International Towers for its pioneering work developing the Green Star certification process for building interiors – a joint initiative of GBCA and International Towers. In a moving address, Ms Madew presented a plaque commemorating International Tower’s commitment to Green Star.

“This plaque recognises all the wonderful work International Towers has completed in the Green Star area,” said Ms Madew, noting that the positive impact of moving the GBCA to International Towers has surpassed her expectations. “I have loved working here - being in this building is beyond everything we thought it would be,” she said.

Mr Timms highlighted Ms Madew’s inspirational leadership and International Towers’ enthusiasm for continuing the progressive work in partnership with sustainability leader Ms Rooney.

“We stand in a building that will have completed 16 as built green star assets for every single tenant partner that has come into International Towers. So much of that is testament to your leadership,” said Liam Timms. “What has been delivered has been exceptional thanks to your leadership.”

Under the new scheme, Green Star certification will be more accessible with a fast-track system being introduced for the tenants of commercial buildings that have achieved Green Star status.

The pioneering new system will see International Towers, Tower Two and Tower Three as the first to streamline certified, individual Green Star tenancy ratings for each of their tenants.
