Step into a world where roots reach for the sky and imagination takes flight. Upside-Down Garden is an immersive sculptural installation by celebrated artist Jumaadi, coming soon to the open atrium along Mercantile Walk under International House.
This 12-metre installation reimagines our natural world from a new point of view. The hovering sculptural forms are drawn from botanical, archetypal and mythological worlds. They combine with shadow play and sound to create a magical, alternative reality, providing a moment of wonder within the bustle of Barangaroo.
Jumaadi’s works often explore duality – memory and movement, Indonesia and Australia, love and loss – and this piece invites you to reflect on transformation, connection and perspective through form, light and storytelling.
Let this dreamlike canopy draw your eyes upward and your thoughts inward as you pass through one of the precinct’s busiest walkways.
ABOUT JUMAADI
Jumaadi studied at the National Art School in Sydney, completing both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Art. His practice includes large-scale installations, hand-tooled buffalo hide works, and paintings infused with mythical and spiritual elements. Through this unique lens, he reimagines history and brings new meaning to the spaces we share.
