Celebrating Lunar New Year
Join us as we welcome the Year of the Horse, a powerful and spirited chapter in the Lunar New Year cycle, with a vibrant traditional Lion Dance
Symbolising energy, freedom, perseverance, and forward movement, the Year of the Horse encourages confidence, determination, and bold steps toward new horizons. It’s a year driven by action, one that invites us to move forward with purpose while honouring tradition and cultural heritage.
Come and follow the lively procession on Wednesday, 11 February 2025, as we celebrate this joyous occasion together.
When: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, 11 February 2025
Where: The Waking Ceremony begins at Exchange Square, adjacent to Wild Sage Barangaroo.
The Lion Dance procession will then wind its way through Mercantile Walk, along Shipwright Walk, and conclude at Watermans Quay.
This year’s celebrations are complemented by artwork from Chris Yee, an Australian Chinese artist whose work bridges traditional symbolism and contemporary expression. Yee has exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria and counts Justin Bieber among his clients. His practice reflects a deep connection to cultural heritage and modern identity, exploring themes of celebration, movement, and belonging within the Australian Chinese experience.
In honouring the Year of the Horse, Yee’s artwork captures the spirit traditionally associated with the horse—strength, vitality, progress, and optimism. Through dynamic forms and symbolic elements, the piece reflects the Lunar New Year as a moment of renewal and momentum, looking ahead while staying grounded in tradition.
Don’t miss this unique and festive experience as we usher in a prosperous Lunar New Year, celebrating culture, community, and the energy of the Year of the Horse together.
