About the Artist
International Towers have collaborated with artist Nardurna (Ryhia Dank) to create the artwork for NAIDOC Week. Ryhia Dank is a Gudanji/Wakaja artist who grew up in a remote community in the Northern Territory. Now based on Gubbi Gubbi Country, Ryhia tells stories through pattern and design. Ryhia runs her own successful fine art and design studio under the name Nardurna, meaning "woman" in her language.
About the artwork, 'Carrying Forward'
By Ryhia Dank
This piece reflects 50 years of NAIDOC. A continuation of strength, voice, and presence carried across generations. At the centre is the basket, a carrying vessel. It represents what is held, shared, and passed on: knowledge, story, and community. Facing forward, it speaks to moving together, grounded in what has come before, while looking ahead. Five rings sit within the work, marking 50 years. They acknowledge the time, the progress, and the continued presence of NAIDOC as a platform for First Nations voices. Five footprints, representing the Old People. Their presence remains, guiding and shaping what continues today. Lines move throughout the artwork, symbolising strength, not fixed, but active and ongoing. Together, these elements speak to continuity, respect, and the path forward, carrying what has come before into what comes next. “Carrying Forward reflects 50 years of strength, presence, and continuity. It holds both past and future, grounded in what has come before, while moving forward together.”
