Spring in the Lobbies at International Towers

Wendy Yu’s Abstract Flora Flow
Wendy Yu's digital work Abstract Flora Flow transforms our lobbies into a surreal underwater dreamscape, where flora drift like sentient sea creatures, swaying in imagined tidal currents. Compressing the Harbour’s natural rhythms into a 10-minute narrative, the work invites viewers into a fluid, otherworldly realm where the real and the imagined gently collide.
With our unique location on the edge of the Harbour, the lines between land and sea, nature and artifice, begin to blur—each influencing the other and existing in harmony. The flowers appear submerged not only to reflect the influence of the tides, but also to evoke a dream state where time folds, gravity loosens, and botanical forms are untethered from their natural context. This liminal setting heightens a sense of disorientation and wonder, inviting viewers to float between waking and dreaming.
A cyclical vertical scroll, unfolding in ~2.5-minute phases, mirrors two full tidal cycles compressed into just 10 minutes. The gentle swaying of flora enhances the underwater illusion, while crest-like forms suggest fluid currents. The result is a hypnotic, meditative rhythm. Periods of dynamic transformation shift the blooms from one type to another, echoing the pulse of the sea. Colours, shapes, and scales evolve in waves—inviting the viewer to lose their sense of place and time, immersed in a world just below the surface.
