About the artist:
My name is Sharon Naparulla. I'm a mother to three daughters and am fluent in Pintupi/Luritja and Warlpiri. My family is from Papunya (Warumpi) Community in the Northern Territory, Central Australia, and my father is a retired school principal from Christchurch in New Zealand. I currently reside in Mparnte (Alice Springs) in the Northern Territory.
I spent most of my early life learning how to paint, watching my mother, Ada Andy Napaltjarri, and extended family members, like my uncle Cllifford Japaltjari Possum, my grandmother Intalura Nungala, and my uncle Michael Jackamarra Nelson, to name a few. They were the founding artists for Papunya Tula.
I mostly paint bush foods, my ancestral Country Karrinyarra (Central Mt Wedge) in the Northern Territory, and songlines passed on by my mother and extended family members. I'm currently employed with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and I paint mainly as a hobby as I have a busy life looking after my family.
About the artwork, shared by the artist:
Painted May 2026 on Acrylic.
The painting depicts women and children out collecting bush foods after the rainy season. The bright colours represent the blooming desert life after the rain. This is when the country tells us all the bush foods are nice and ripe to collect. The bush foods are bush banana, honey ants, witchetty grubs, bush raisins, and quondongs.

All profits from this initiative go directly back into Indigenous Literacy Foundation programs, strengthening opportunities for emerging artists across remote Communities.
If you wish to work with a Talent Pathways artist, please contact ILF on darren@ilf.org.au.
