Meet your Storytellers
No Audience– Mike Karame
After building a life around achievement, adventure and independence, Amar moved to Australia from Lebanon at 48, only to watch his money, home and identity collapse. What followed was an unexpected journey through the Australian outback with his partner Kate, where losing almost everything forced him to confront a deeper question: when the roles, possessions and identities we spend a lifetime building disappear, what remains of who we really are?
Buckets of Hope – Abang Othow
Abang’s story began in the shadows of war between Sudan and Ethopia. At five she was separated from her family, became a child refugee and found silence safer than speaking. Her framework Buckets of Hope began as a way to survive, helped her heal and now helps others begin their journey of resilience and emotional growth.
Serving Humanity – Amar Singh
Amar Singh came to Australia from India seeking a better life, but upon arrival faced racism and discrimination for the turban he wore and beard he grew. Rather than retreat, he embraced his Sikh identity and turned adversity into service. In 2015, he founded Turbans 4 Australia, a not-for-profit charity supporting Australians facing food insecurity and natural disasters, regardless of religion, language or background. His resilience, compassion and inclusion made him Australia’s 2023 Local Hero.
Blindsided – Amanda Coombe
Sometimes the words that shape a life aren’t our own. At seven, Amanda was handed a version of her future she never asked for when she lost her sight, one defined by what she supposedly couldn’t do. Those words could have become the boundaries of her life. They didn’t. This is Amanda’s story of challenging the limits others placed upon her, and the courage it took her to ask herself: Whose predictions has she allowed to define her?
Separation to Belonging – Judy Corak
From experiencing wordly professional success to economic disaster, from spiritual covens to speaking in tongues, Judy has journeyed through love, loss, belief and ideology in search of truth. Along the way she has come to understand the power of miracles and the realisation that belonging was never something to find, as she was always connected to everything and all that is.
The Unbecoming – Uma Panch
What happens when you hit rock bottom and face an existential crisis? For Uma, it all started with one question: “Is this all there is to life?” That question became the catalyst for a journey of unbecoming, shedding conditioning, expectations and identities to rediscover herself.
